    Joint European wood promotion
    in China and Japan
    At the headquarters of the European Confederation of Woodworking Industries (CEI-Bois) in Brussels, timber promotion organisations in the major European wood producing countries signed today (23 June 2004) an agreement to join forces to promote wood in Asia. The main task of the European Wood Initiative will be wood promotion in Japan and China. But increasing the use of wood as a building material also requires the removing of obstacles in standards and laws.

    The winner in the Building Europe Magazine Facade competition is…
    the Gridshell at the Weald and Downland Open Air Museum

    The Gridshell at the Weald and Downland Open Air Museum in Sussex, UK beat six other shortlisted projects from around Europe to take the top prize. The winning designers, Edward Cullinan and John Romer win a study trip for two to Japan, one of the world’s leading countries for designing and building with wood.

    Final agreement and new NTC campaign manager in France

    The National Committee for the Development of Wood in France (CNDB) and the Nordic Timber Council (NTC) have signed an agreement to cooperate in a three-year marketing campaign in France called Le Bois… c`est essentiel! The budget for the first year (2004) will be € 1.2 million, excluding VAT, a sum which is to be raised during 2005-2006, to € 2 million per year.
    Bettina Horsch, an architect with broad experience in wood promotion, has been appointed new campaign manager in France.
